Looking Back at CAMPUSTAGE 2025: Cyber Security in Focus

Under the banner “Cyber Security – How do I protect my data?”, the annual CAMPUSTAGE took place again on 4 September at the datenschutz nord CAMPUS. In glorious weather, numerous guests at the information event learned about current cyber threats and possible defence strategies and exchanged views.

The talks and discussions made one thing clear: data protection and information security go hand in hand. Careful risk analyses—such as within a data protection impact assessment (DPIA)—benefit not only data protection but also cyber security.

Standards such as ISO 27001, IT-Grundschutz (A systematic basis for information security) or Trusted Information Security Assessment Exchange (TISAX) and regulations such as The German domestic intelligence services, NIS 2 Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) provide effective guardrails for improving cyber security.

Penetration tests help to recognise typical attack patterns and uncover weaknesses in existing safeguards—before an attacker does.

The human factor also received due attention. The takeaway: security culture begins with communication. People-centred interaction strategies and clear responsibilities noticeably improve security decisions.

Further talk highlights included:

  • Implementing NIS 2 Directive: insight into status, fields of action and the urgent need for implementation in affected organisations.
  • Understanding the Cyber Resilience Act: overview of regulatory requirements and their impact on products and processes.
  • Business Continuity Management (BCM): identifying common weaknesses and designing realistic exercises.
  • Digital accessibility: requirements and standards—considering accessibility, data protection and information security together.
  • Synthetic data—opportunity or risk?: Potential uses for testing and AI training while respecting data protection and security.

A sobering thread ran through the day: despite the growing threat landscape, the expansion of protective measures often falls short of expectations. The experts’ urgent appeal: act now, before it is too late.
